Happy Halloween 2008

Elmo and Renaissance Princess.

Dang, all that trick or treating made us HUNGRY!

A few insights into our lives

Sunday night at Grandma's.
Did anyone say "CHEEEEEEEEEEEEESE?

Missing October

November 16

Apparently, I have crossed the line to too dang busy to blog. I have always teetered there. But I am back and here we go.

Bob has traveled some. He has been back to Spain, Texas, More Texas, and home some. He is going close to home next week. He also stayed a couple of days with his parents while Herman had some minor surgery. He has gotten to rest some days too and he appreciated that. He also got to spend more time with Veronica and Cash. Cash has figured out Poppie is one fun guy to hang out with. They play trucks and cars and tractors and bobcats for hours. Bob also introduced Veronica to a game on the computer called Fantastic Contraptions and they are both obsessed! So are all of my students. The game is even educational.

I have just worked. And then worked some more. Typical work week. Spend part of Sunday doing laundry, planning for the week, working at school. Monday-teach-then go home and watch Dances with the Stars. Tuesday-teach all day-then teach GED program-until 6:30. Wednesday-teach-then tutor until 4:45. Thursday-teach-then GED program again until 6:30-then watch My Name is Earl, Grey's Anatomy, ER. Friday-teach-collapse and/or babysit. Saturday-Just depends.

We have had some stressful transition this year among staff, but things seem better. I do enjoy the people I work with. I enjoy my students this year. However, we have had so many interruptions that I feel like I haven't got to teach much this year. Going to refocus on that.

I planned a field trip to a theater for my students. They enjoyed it. I did write a play about the Holocaust that my students performed for the community on Veterans Day. Actually I organized the whole event and it went really well. Many of the students and teachers and local veterans participated.

Bob and I hosted a Halloween party for many of my co-workers. In case you wonder what teachers do at parties...we have dress up in costumes, talk a lot, drink punch, play wii rock band, and sing horrible kareoke (Still can't spell.) A good time was had by all.

We also redid the bathroom. Paint, shower doors, trim, and other stuff. If I ever get the door repainted, we are done.

Halloween was fun. I passed out a lot of candy. I had over 100 trick or treaters. I saw a lot of my students and some students who are now the parents. Nobody put toilet paper in my trees!

Rachel and the kids wore themselves out getting everywhere. They had a snack before they left, but didn't have time to eat a meal. At 8:30, my front door opened and Cash came running in yelling, "Green Beans! Green Beans! Green Beans!" He then ran to his chair, got in it, and started shoveling all the food he could when I gave him a plate of roast, potatoes, and green beans. Rachel and Veronica were starved too and it was pretty quiet until they ate.

Rachel has been going out with friends more often. Sometimes she thinks she wants a boyfriend, but can't decide if they are worth the trouble. She and a girlfriend just went to a comedy club and had a great time. She is working for her dad and is getting ready to go textbook buying in December. The challenges of motherhood get to her sometimes, but she keeps moving on.

Drew is enjoying his new Army base in Colorado. Currently he is going to be a sniper. He didn't pick that, but they picked him based on his high ASVAB score. However, he also was encouraged to apply to fly helicopters. He is waiting for the flight aptitude test for that. He bought a new truck and is pretty excited about that. He will be coming home for Thanksgiving.

Mike and Ryan have called a couple of times. They are doing fine. Bob was actually home and got to speak to both of them. We still think they are graduating from high school this January.

Veronica is making her way through 2nd grade. She is still bubbly and has developed the habit of saying pretty much what she thinks. Even more than normal. It seems to be a second grade thing, as my friend has shared that her second grader does the same thing. Veronica is having a few problems with the change in weather due to her breathing problems. We are both big fans of Dancing With the Stars and she likes to spend Monday nights with me, so we can get our fix. She was a beautiful Renaissance girl for Halloween.

Cash is a happy and ACTIVE boy. His favorite things continue to be Hot Sausage, Tractors, His Momma and Sister, and his friends. He is talking up a storm. He can say anything you do. Sometimes that is not so good. His babysitter and her husband bought him a Bobcat machinery toy and that is what he talks about MOST of the time. Rachel is about to go nuts! I can tell what his conversations are when he is playing with his friend Hunter...."Bobcat! Mine! Bobcat! Hunter! Bobcat! Share!" He is very big on explaining who his toys belong to. He likes the word share if it means he gets to share. Cash was Elmo for Halloween.

Mom came up for her class reunion and a short visit. She is enjoying her retirement. We are still looking for a house for her. The kids just love her to death and want her to move soon.

I talk to my sister Beverly regularly. I also got to go dinner with my sister-in-law Debbie. I got to see her and Bill's grandsons on Halloween and they are cute and growing!

Our cat is alive. The fish is, but I really need to change his water.

Over and out!

Breakfast at 5:00 am

Baby Cash spent the night with Grandma. His first word when he wakes up is "tractor" and his second word is sausage. Grandma will make him sausage and waffles at 5:00!

He ate three sausage links and one whole waffle.

At the end of the page that shows on your computer, click the Older Entries button as I have recently put so much on here, that you may not be able to see everything.

My Friend Mary

This my friend from college, Mary, and her children Ryan and Natalie. It was a good visit with them!

More Renaissance Fun

Some Characters and Some Characters riding an elephant. Drew did not know the lady before the ride, but he did after...

Renaissance Festival

As you can see we had a great time. Cash and Drew hung out together. Bob made friends with a fountain...I made friends with Jack...Veronica is an absolute princess...and Cash is ready for a nap.

Rachel had been out the night before with friends and threatened us if we took pictures.

Drew's Visit And Our Babies

On Thursday the 18th Drew got to fly home before reporting to Colorado on Monday, September 29. Bob picked him up at the airport. Drew mostly rested up during his break, but Veronica and Cash were very happy to see Uncle Drew.

Rachel didn't get to go anywhere, but has been working like mad for her father.

We all took a break on Sunday the 21 and went to the Renaissance Festival. We all had a really great time, but we were WORE out at the end of the day.

A couple of Fair Shots

These are pictures from the baby show where our little Cash Aiden Atkinson won first place in his division. Rachel looks pretty good too.

September 2-14th

Truthfully, this was so long ago, it is difficult to remember everything that happened.

I was the chairman of the Wee Queen and King contest for my sorority. That meant lots of work and Rachel was a big help.

On September 6, Cash was in the Holden Fair Baby Show. He got FIRST and has a little trophy. He was sitting up there so calm, until he spotted me in the crowd. Then he was bad. We know he is cute, but it may have had something to do with the fact that he made sure the judges remembered him!

On Sunday, Veronica competed in the little Queen contest. She didn't win, but Veronica just doesn't mind. She had a good time. Apparently during her walk across the stage, she stopped, asked for a Kleenex, and blew her nose in front of the crowd.

I was REALLY busy with school. Mom came on Tuesday, the 9th and Rachel helped out by making dinner.

September 10-Saturday 12 Mom and I went to Georgia for Drew's graduation from bootcamp. We almost didn't make the plane in KC due to lack of parking, but everything else was great. Thursday we went to the Turning Blue Ceremony and Mom got to pin Drew's blue cord on at a ceremony. They also hugged and will be in a movie. Then we got to take Drew and his friend Richard out to eat and to the movies. They were really happy to eat at Applebee's! They saw Deathrace and Mom and I saw Mirrors with Kieffer Southerland. It was intense.

You may have wondered where Bob was. Well, he had been in Spain and on Thursday was actually flying through Atlanta.

Graduation the next day was impressive. Drew's Dad and his paternal grandparents got to come so Drew was well represented with family. After graduation Mom and I went back to Atlanta and Drew went on leave with his Dad and Jane and Don.

Friday evening we went out to eat with my friend from college, Mary and her family. They were very welcoming and we all had a great time. Her kids are very bright and entertaining.

Saturday morning's flight went well. We got home in time to go to the parade for the Holden Fair. We got lots of free candy! The fair was pretty much rained out this year, so it didn't matter much that we were out of town.

Mom is house hunting and we went to see several houses on Monday. I think she may sell her place and then rent.

Tuesday the 16th Mom went home, but plans to return next month to attend her class reunion. She had a good time with Cash, Veronica, and Rachel.

Then we got to wait to see where Drew ended up. He has changed what he is doing. He finally got his orders to go Fort Carson, CO. He is happy about it.

Chilhowee Fair

Enjoying the sights at the fair. This is the bell from the Chilhowee Methodist Church where many of Veronica's family have attended.

Our pensive little man...After a day at the fair and of swimming, a man's got to have a little rest. It didn't help that he was teething and his temperature was too high.

Pretty Girls!

Labor Day!

It is Labor Day and I am going to school to labor. I have so many projects in the works that I do need to work.

Bob is in Spain on a beautiful island. Now that his luggage has arrived after several days without it, the island and Bob are both more beautiful and Bob at least smells better. He did get the opportunity to swim in the ocean and was promptly stung by a jellyfish. Poor Bob. Lets hope he has a better week.

I am really busy. Regular school, GED program, Wee Queen and King contest, very little writing, and getting ready to go see Drew Sept 10-12. I have not been home much at all.

Drew is graduating from bootcamp. He called and said he has made it through everything and just needs to be able to do one more pushup than he can. I really hope he can do that pushup.

My mom came overnight to look at a house. She didn't really care for it, but since she is going with me to see Drew...we will go look at some more. She did get a chance to go see her brother-in -law, Uncle Wilbie. They had a good visit.

Saturday, I took the kids to see the Chilhowee Fair Parade. It was small, but Veronica got candy and Cash saw tractors. Then we came home and went swimming.

Rachel had her 27th birthday on the 24th. We bought her a spa treatment that she loved. She took the children for some rides at the Chilhowee Fair.

Veronica is still learning in second grade. She spent the night with me Friday. She has had her little friend, Casey over this weekend.

Cash got a toddler bed this weekend. He is still sleeping in crib, but Rachel got a good deal. She brought in my living room to show him. It was set up in front of the tv. He got the remote control and a pillow off the couch, crawled in the bed, covered up, and started pushing buttons to change channels. He IS a man.

Ryan called and left a message that they had started school and things were good. Their Grandma Dolores called and said they have a really nice place to live now. Dolores and I had a nice visit.

That is about it. I am off to school to work.

My first day of school for 2008-09

It's my 23rd year and here is the picture my Mom expects.

She would be happier if I was wearing a red dress. She always made me wear a red dress on the first day!

Sunday, August 17

Read on to next posts to see some pictures.

Last weekend Bob and I flew to Georgia to visit Drew at Army bootcamp. He really seems happy and we had a nice visit. I think he actually missed us!

Then we flew home and I went to work at the beginning of the week. Seems like a good group of kids. Bob stayed home and tried to do little, as it is his vacation.

Rachel has been working as usual. There were some scary moments this week as her dad wasn't feeling well and an ambulance had to be called. He seems to be better.

Drew turned 23 on Friday and Rachel turns 27 next week.

We talked to Ryan this weekend and he and Mike and the rest of the family have moved to a new place that is really nice. They are getting ready for school.

Veronica is doing two shots a week for asthma. She is also playing soccer one night a week. She is now a second grader at Holden and we all like her teacher. She is also sassy and it will be good for her to be back in school. It will be good for Rachel to have Veronica go back to school.

Cash is a terror. He is cutting teeth and he is not happy about it. He also likes to have his own way. He loves sausage. Rachel was talking about having bought some sausage and he heard her. He wanted some and she told him no. It made him mad, so he bit Rachel on the butt! That will teach her!

All is well with us and I am very busy. So, I must get going on my next project.

Have a great week!

Our Happy Drew

This our Drew in the Army. He seems happy to be there. These pictures are from Family Day Weekend August 9 & 10th when Bob and I flew down to see him. He looks good, although thin at 162 lbs. He was disappointed that his head got shaved...again right before we got there. He was happy to eat real food. He did the breakfast bar, burger, Taco Bell, and Applebee's where he got his favorite dessert the Blondie Brownie. We got him his own room at the hotel and he enjoyed getting to sleep alone. I took my computer and he got to use that. They also gave him back his cell phone and he can accept calls. Bob and Drew went to see Hellboy II and we all three went to see Hancock and The Dark Knight. I liked Hancock and the Dark Knight, but I couldn't face another movie. We also made a trip to Wal-Mart and an army store called Ranger Joe's. We did a little sightseeing in Columbus, GA where Fort Benning is located. There were some neat Army things to see but Drew was ready for a break from all things Army.
